The Pasadena Convention Center is committed to being environmentally responsible and has long recognized the importance of sustainability efforts. We are continuously seeking ways to reduce our footprint and serve those in need. We are dedicated to environmental improvements that encourage social responsibility and economical improvements in our venue, community, and industry.

Energy Management

  • The facility is designed to perform 32% better than California’s energy efficiency standards, thanks to our automated, high-efficiency lighting and equipment (including LED technology
  • Minimal lighting and air conditioning/heating levels are maintained during move-in/move-out days
  • Motion-sensor lighting installed in administrative offices and public restrooms
  • Energy-efficient central plant ensures the larger facility operates without adding to Southern California’s electrical grid

WATER CONSERVATION

  • With low-flow toilets, waterless urinals, drought-resistant landscaping, and storm water run-off used for irrigation, our water consumption is 20% below the minimum requirements
  • Replaced urinals with waterless models
  • Replaced toilets throughout the facility with low flow 1.28 gallon per flush (GPF) unit
  • Upgraded faucets to .35 gallon per minute faucets
  • Upgraded faucets to motion-sensor faucets in restrooms
  • Replaced 300 unfinished folding leg tables with 300 linenless tables that have an elegant, finished laminate top

RECYCLING/WASTE DIVERSION

  • Mixed recycling and organic waste recycling program for show and operational waste
  • Energy efficient hand-dryers in restrooms
  • Filtered water stations available throughout the facility reduce the amount of plastic bottles in waste and the amount of un-consumed glasses/pitchers of water.
  • Filtered water stations throughout the facility for guests to use in an effort to eliminate single-use plastics
  • Cardboard compactor/baler onsite
  • Mixed recycle bins throughout the facility
  • Organic waste bin onsite to improve diversion stream
  • Ability to provide donation coordination to show operators for excess food and show material items

FOOD & BEVERAGE PRACTICES

  • Responsible and local sourcing
  • Waste reduction and diversion practices throughout service operations
  • Supporting communities through food donations and volunteerism
  • Biodegradable and compostable products in an effort to eliminate plastic waste
  • Organic herb and vegetable garden onsite. This produce is used to prepare certain meals, make herb purees and dry rubs.
  • Use of aluminum canned water to eliminate the use of single-use plastics for a more eco-friendly recyclable product
  • Grease and oil used in the preparation of food is recycled
  • Implementation of food waste reduction efforts by utilizing Sodexo Live! Proprietary WasteWatch program

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION

  • PCOC encourages using public transportation and/or carpooling
  • Public transit subsidy for employees
  • Vanpool/carpool designated parking spaces in Center’s parking structure
  • 8 EV charging stations in our parking structure
  • Bike racks around the facility for employees and guests

BUILDING FEATURES & AWARDS

  • Building designed with 44% locally manufactured materials
  • Meeting and banquet chairs are made from recycled plastic
  • 98% of the construction waste from the Pasadena Convention Center’s expansion project was recycled
  • The expanded Pasadena Convention Center has been awarded the highly coveted LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council
